MALAVAZHI: The Man, the Mountain, and the Vanishing Gods. Amid Kerala’s misty hills, Malavazhi follows Manikyan, the last guardian of Parayan Kali, a dying ritual of the Paraya community. Clinging to Muniyattukunnu, a mountain desecrated by quarry mafias, he resists the slow death of faith, memory, and land. Torn between devotion and despair, Manikyan’s fight for the sacred becomes a struggle against greed, displacement, and silence itself. Malavazhi is a haunting meditation on heritage and loss, a lament for cultures fading beneath modernity’s weight.

ಕೇರಳದ ಮಂಜು ಮುಸುಕಿದ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಸಾಗುವ ಮಲವಳಿ ಚಿತ್ರವು ಪರಾಯ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ನಶಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪರಾಯನ್ ಕಾಳಿ ಎಂಬ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಕೊನೆಯ ರಕ್ಷಕರಾದ ಮಾಣಿಕ್ಯನ್‌ನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಗಣಿಗಾರಿಕಾ ಮಾಫಿಯಾಗಳಿಂದ ಅವಮಾನಿತಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಮುನಿಯಾಟ್ಟುಕುನ್ನು ಪರ್ವತವನ್ನು ಆಲಿಂಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು, ಅವನು ನಂಬಿಕೆ, ನೆನಪು ಮತ್ತು ನೆಲದ ಸಾವಿನ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಹೋರಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಭಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರಾಶೆಯ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಸಿಲುಕಿರುವ ಮಾಣಿಕ್ಯನ್‌ಗೆ ಪಾವಿತ್ರ್ಯತೆಯ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯೇ ಲೋಭ, ಸ್ಥಳಚ್ಯುತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮೌನದ ವಿರುದ್ಧದ ಹೋರಾಟವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಲವಳಿ ಪರಂಪರೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಷ್ಟದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಾಡುವ ಧ್ಯಾನವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಆಧುನಿಕತೆಯ ಭಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಒಂದು ವಿಲಾಪವಾಗಿದೆ.

Boban Govindan is a film maker based in Kerala, with a creative journey spanning over two decades. Starting as a photographer in 2000, he worked on music albums and films, eventually transitioning to the film industry as an Assistant Director in 2015. With experience in three films, Boban approaches cinema as a powerful tool for social change, artistic expression, and storytelling.
