Synopsis

Taking the cataclysmic Easter Sunday Bombings of Churches and Hotels in April 2019 by ISIS-inspired Islamists in Sri Lanka as the point of departure, the film follows the life of Asifa in Kattankudy, in Eastern Sri Lanka, as she navigates the complex social forces shaping her and other women's stories. The film tells the story of the town, as a woman's tale.

ASHFAQUE MOHAMED

Ashfaque Mohamed has created a number of short films, some of which have been showcased internationally and have received awards. He is a pivotal figure in establishing a film festival in the war-torn and conflict-ridden eastern city of Batticaloa. His work focuses on building bridges between Muslim and Tamil communities, touching upon themes of marginality, gender, sexuality, and concerns of class and displacement. FACE COVER marks his debut as a feature film director.
