THE DISPOSSESSED VASTHUHARA G. ARAVINDAN

Vaasthuhara is based on the short story of the same name by C. V. Sreeraman. The film looks into the lives of partition refugees from East Bengal to West Bengal. At a larger level, it's the universal story of refugees.

ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾವು ಸಿ. ವಿ. ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನ್ ಅವರ ಇದೇ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಸಣ್ಣಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿದೆ. ಭಾರತದ ವಿಭಜನೆಯ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ವ ಬಂಗಾಳದಿಂದ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಬಂಗಾಳಕ್ಕೆ ನಿರಾಶ್ರಿತರಾಗಿ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದ ಜನರ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವು ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವಂತೆ ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಕಥೆಯಾಗಿ ನೋಡುವ ಬದಲು, ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಯಾವುದೇ ಮೂಲೆಯ ನಿರಾಶ್ರಿತರು ಅನುಭವಿಸುವ ಸಂಕಟದ ಕಥೆಯಾಗಿಯೂ ನೋಡಬಹುದು.

Govindan Aravindan (1935–1991) was a pioneering Malayalam filmmaker, painter and cartoonist whose films reshaped Indian parallel cinema. Born in Kottayam, Kerala, he began as a cartoonist before moving into filmmaking. His cinema is known for its poetic minimalism, silence, long shots and philosophical depth. Rooted in modernist thought, Aravindan’s work blends folklore, spirituality and social critique, leaving a lasting legacy in Indian cinema. His most important films include UTTARAYANAM (1975), KANCHANA SEETA (1977), KUMMATY (1979), ESTHEPPAN (1980), POKKUVAYIL (1982), CHIDAMBARAM (1985) and ORIDATHORIDATHU (1987). He has received several major national and international honours for his contribution to Indian cinema.
