India Song unfolds within the decaying decadence of a French embassy in 1930s India. Here, a diplomat’s wife drifts through a series of hollow affairs, surrendering to a suffocating sense of ennui. Marguerite Duras (1914–1996) was a French writer, playwright, and filmmaker whose work reshaped modern literature and cinema. Born in French Indochina, she explored memory, desire, love, and power through a spare, haunting style. She wrote over 40 books, including around 30 novels, most famously THE LOVER. She directed around 19 films, including BAXTER, VERA BAXTER (1977), DESTROY, SHE SAID (1969), and LE CAMION (1977). Her screenplay for HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR (1959) brought her international acclaim. Her awards include the Prix Goncourt (1984) and the Grand Prix National du Cinéma (1983). INDIA SONG is among her most acclaimed works.
