CLÉO FROM 5 TO 7 follows Florence, a young singer known professionally as “Cléo Victoire,” over a brief stretch of time on June 21, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., as she waits for the results of a biopsy that may confirm stomach cancer. As she moves through Paris, meeting friends and strangers, moments of everyday life prompt reflection. As time passes, her playful confidence gives way to deeper self-awareness and vulnerability.

Agnès Varda (1928–2019) was a pioneering French filmmaker, photographer and artist, widely regarded as the godmother of the French New Wave cinema. Born in Belgium and raised in France, she began her career in photography before turning to cinema. Her debut LA POINTE COURTE (1955) anticipated New Wave aesthetics with its blend of realism and formal experimentation. Her celebrated films include (1962), VAGABOND (1985) and JACQUOT DE NANTES (1991). Varda’s work blends personal insight, social observation and playful invention. She received an Honorary Academy Award in 2017. CLÉO FROM 5 TO 7 is her 2nd feature film.
